Microsoft Gets Revised Office 2007, Back On Its Online Store

By admin, January 18, 2010

A successful lawsuit on Microsoft by i4i inc. regarding patent infringement of custom XML usage had eventually forced the Tech Pioneer to abide with the court’s decision and avert the conflicting XML usages from existing and future Microsoft Word application by Jan 11, 2010.

On Jan 11, there were a number of office versions, which went unavailable for buying, which clearly depicted that Microsoft didn’t meet the deadline on time. A couple of media sources noted it right on Jan 11 itself.

Now it seems that Microsoft is done with the exclusion of questionable custom XML usage in Word application as various Office application suites, which mainly covers the Office 2007 offerings as yet, have started selling on the official Microsoft Office site again.

Microsoft Office 2010 to STOP Supporting ‘Windows XP 64 bit version’

By admin, December 17, 2009

no-support-480Microsoft has clarified that Office 2010, the upcoming application suite from Microsoft will NOT support Windows XP 64 bit version at all. More astounding is the fact that this is the first time that Microsoft is releasing two versions of Office 2010, 32 bit and 64 bit.

Now if Microsoft is releasing ‘first ever’ 64 bit version of Office 2010, why can’t that version support WinXP 64 bit version. Because, Microsoft is sick and tired of their eight year old operating system(Win XP 32 bit, in particular), which is still the most popular operating system in the world.

With no revenues coming from Win XP anymore, Microsoft is now least interested in supporting Win XP but as XP is still the most popular OS around, they can’t pr-empt their XP support, even if they wish to. Not offering support for latest Microsoft’s software releases is possibly the only way for them to let people get rid of Win XP.

To do things smoothly rather than being too abrupt, Microsoft has decided to stop providing Win XP 64 bit support for Office 2010. Expect that Microsoft will follow up with many such moves to make people jump to Windows 7.

For information sake, here are the Windows versions(both Personal and Enterprise) supported by Microsoft Office 2010.

  • Windows XP (32-bit only)
  • Windows Server 2003 R2 with MSXML 6.0 installed
  • Windows Vista SP1+
  • Windows Server 2008 SP2+
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008 R2

And 64 bit version of Office 2010 will, of course, be useless for 32 bit versions of any version of Windows.

Office 2010’s successor, ‘Microsoft Office 15′ is already “Work In Progress”

By admin, December 9, 2009
As we know that Office 2010 Closed preview and Beta launches are done already and it’s very much official as well that Microsoft Office 2010 application suite will start selling to individuals and businesses by June 2010.
But what’s surprising is the fact that Microsoft

work-in-progressAs we know that Office 2010 Closed preview and Beta launches are done already and it’s very much official as well that Microsoft Office 2010 application suite will start selling to individuals and businesses by June 2010.

But what’s utterly surprising, even for us, is the fact that Microsoft has already started working on the successor of Office 2010, currently referred as Microsoft Office 15. Now when Office 2010 is yet to make its way to the market, hearing about in-progress successor sounds a little too advanced but then, it’s Microsoft’s second most popular product suite and second most profitable as well so you can digest it anyways.

Another reason for such an advanced development is the fact that Google is in full mood to drift away as many MS Office users as possible towards Cloud based Google Docs, an immature competitor to Office product suite till date.

Taking the reference from past Office releases, our guess is that Microsoft Office 15 may hit the market somewhere in mid 2013. That’s still some three and a half years from now so there’s no need to bother about it right now.

Right now, more important stuff to know is that Office 2010 Beta has hit a milestone ! There are now over 1 million Beta testers of Office 2010, since its release two weeks back. This is, by far the highest number of Office beta testers ever achieved in just two weeks taking account of early Office beta releases.

Looks like excitement is building up for Office 2010 as we are approaching the year 2010 !

Microsoft Office 2010 Pre-sales Kickstarts !

By admin, December 4, 2009

As Microsoft has already announced the month of Office 2010 launch, another move has just been made by Vole in alliance with Microsoft to spike the declining sales of Microsoft Office 2007.

According to Inquirer

Redmond is offering customers 20 per cent off Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 purchases plus an upgrade to Microsoft Office 2010 when it launches in June 2010.

It is a similar move which was taken earlier by Microsoft to pre-sell Windows 7 and boost Windows Vista sales before the launch. Windows Vista was offered at a discounted price along with a free upgrade to Windows 7, months before the scheduled launch of Windows 7. As a marketing standpoint, the strategy is great for the product sellers as the hype surrounding the product works hugely in favor of product pre-selling and helps squeezing the most out of the existing product version.

But sometimes, the users feel unhappy with being pre-selled as this way, they surrender themselves to the yet to launch product purely on the basis of hype, without having any sort of real user feedback.

But in this case, as millions of users have already tried out Office 2010 Beta, there’s hardly any doubt about the capability and feature additions in Office 2010 among the Beta tester community.

The offer is open until December 31, 2009. Grab it fast if you want to !

Confirmed: Microsoft Office 2010 To Become Available by June 2010

By admin, December 1, 2009

Microsoft has finally communicated the release month of MS Office 2010 and it is the month of June next year. With such a long gap between Beta and final product releases of MS Office 2010, it seems Microsoft is worrying a little too much about the success of MS Office 2010 and giving whole lot of time for the Beta release to fix up all the existing bugs and do the best of their product launch preparations for Office 2010 launch.

So with over seven months left before end users grab their copies of MS Office 2010 product suite, what else can folks expect from Microsoft regarding Office 2010 ?

We believe, Microsoft is busy chalking out strategies to make Office Web Apps a great yet dependent utility for End users. By Great yet Dependent, we mean to draw your attention about Microsoft’s strategy to make Office Web Apps, a free value addition to this 2010 edition of Microsoft Office yet make users remain dependent enough on the real stuff, that is, feature packed Microsoft Office 2010 app suite.

As most of us are acquainted by now(assuming that most of the users have tasted Office web apps by now), Office Web Apps are good enough for web based document sharing and co-editing purposes but the rich features & capability of Office applications still resides in Office 2010 desktop app suite.

Office Web Apps is a precisely calculated effort of Microsoft, to fight against Google docs in Cloud Computing space, yet preserve the revenue stream that flows through millions of software sales of desktop version of Office app suite.

But from a user’s perspective, this mixed strategy actually seems to be the right choice as majority of end users are still to get along with the nascent concept of Cloud computing and prefer to remain native rather than going to cloud.

There is no denying of the fact that Cloud is the future of computing but the transition to cloud computing will take its own time. Microsoft seems to be taking the right transitional approach for Office product suite.

Installing and Administering Office Web Apps in your Enterprise

By admin, November 24, 2009

As Office Web Apps for Enterprise is yet to release for companies and enterprises, we have brought you an introductory article on installing and administering Office Web Apps. It will majorly be useful for IT administrators and Network managers, who are generally involved in administering SharePoint Server for their enterprises.

As Office Web Apps for Enterprises are supposed to be deployed on SharePoint Foundation Server 2010, lets us brief you a little about Office Web Apps first and things you should expect from it.

Office Web Apps are web analogues of desktop based Microsoft Office applications,  which serve the purpose of presenting Office documents through a internet browser window. Office web apps use standard internet languages and tools such as HTML, JavaScript and similar others to display the documents on web. Microsoft has made all relevant efforts in making Office Web apps compatible for every browser.

Now, as you’re clear about the basic Office Web Apps and their utility, you can go ahead with installing Office Web Apps on SharePoint Server 2010. It is noteworthy here that you need not install SharePoint Server 2010 and Office Web apps on different hardware. Office web apps work flawless when installed at the top of SharePoint Server 2010.

Without much ado, here’s the deployment guide you need for installing and administering Office Web Apps on your SharePoint Server 2010.

MS Office 2010 : 32-Bit or 64-Bit ?

As Office 2010 Beta has already been released, both the options, 32 bit as well as 64 bit versions of Office 2010 are available for download. Now, many of the curious folks are wondering if 32 bit version is better or 64 bit ?

Here are some critical facts to help you decide which version you should go for…!

You should go for 64 bit version of Office 2010 only if….

  • You’re a hardcore professional who often works upto to the upper limit(2GB) of Excel workbooks. 64 bit version helps you work beyond the normal memory limit of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other MS Office apps.
  • You’re extremely careful about your data and want additional security through Data Execution Prevention (DEP) technique
  • You have a 64 bit Windows Vista/7 already

You should opt for 32 bit version of Office 2010 if….

  • You either possess a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows Vista/7
  • You don’t want to face any sort of incompatibility issues with ActiveX controls(almost all of them are written for 32 bit Office version)
  • You don’t need an exorbitant amount of memory space when it comes to working with Office apps.
  • You don’t want your graphic elements to render slow and want everything light and fast

Final Verdict : In most cases, you will be satisfied with a 32 bit version. 64 bit version will not be of much use.
