Microsoft Office team has recently made some deterring changes to its policy of selling hugely discounted Office version for academic fraternity.

Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010, which is a discounted version of Office Professional 2010 and specifically meant for academic students has just been transformed into a new version.

And not only the new name, the identity verification process involved has also been reworked.

The new version, rebranded as Office University 2010, is packaged with the same contents as follows:

.

Word

Excel

PowerPoint

OneNote

Outlook

Publisher

Access

Even the cost is the same, which is $99. The only difference, which also reflects with a new name is the narrower eligibility criteria. Office University 2010, as the name suggests, is exclusively available for University students and faculty. K12 students are not eligible for Office University 2010.

With narrower eligibility, Microsoft is aiming to curb another critical thing: Misuse. Office Academic 2010 is equivalent to a full version Office Professional 2010 and therefore, any interested person in full Office version would love to buy Office Academic 2010, as it comes way too cheaper.

The only requirement for buying a hugely discounted Office Academic 2010 was owning a .edu email address. Now, even if you’re not a student, it isn’t a big deal for temporarily managing an .edu account for buying an online product.

That “misuse” of the affordable accessibility of high-end office suite was pissing off Microsoft for a long time and as a result, the product has been rebranded as ‘Office University 2010′, restricted to only Higher education students and faculty members and on top of it all, the identity verification process has been beefed up for lesser chances of any further abuse of the offer.

With new verification rules in place, the Office University 2010 will not be sold with a product key but only a PIN. That PIN will then be used along with couple of other things for Identity verification such as School email ID or International School Identity card.

You can claim your activation key for genuinely bought copy of Office University 2010 through this link.

Microsoft Office 2010 is a proven & incredible piece of software for daily productivity & computing requirements. More than 95% of productivity work across the globe is done through Office products.

With the introduction of Office Web Apps for individuals and Office 365 for enterprise users, Microsoft has brought data sharing, collaboration and tons of other productivity solutions along with Office 2010.

If you’re still confused whether you should upgrade to Office 2010 or not, here’s a quick round-up of Office 2010 features, that more than justifies the worth of Office 2010.

You can further look at head-to-head feature comparison of Office 2010 vs 2007 for more clarity on what you will get out of Office 2010.

If you’ve bought a new PC and got a pre-installed Office version called Office Starter 2010, you’re currently using a limited functionality version of Office productivity suite, containing limited versions of Word 2010 and Excel 2010 only. Other productivity Office applications such as PowerPoint 2010 and Outlook 2010 are not provided in Office Starter 2010. However, Office Starter 2010 can be easily upgraded to full version of Office 2010 by explicitly buying Microsoft Office 2010 Product key card which contains a unique activation key for activating full product.

Else, you’re probably an existing Office user and want to upgrade yourself to Office 2010. For that, we first recommend you to get a preview of new set of features which you will get in Office 2010.

Below are the features and capabilities of Microsoft Project 2010 and gives you enough reasons on why compromise on efficiency and productivity in business throughput if you’re still not making use of Microsoft Project 2010.

Simplified Project Initiation and Business Case Development procedures: To cut out on time consumption and enhance efficiency, Project 2010 has introduced simpler business case development procedures, making project initiation go faster.

Unified Project & Portfolio Management: With Project 2010, you’re less likely to switch from one section to another as your portfolio and projects are well integrated in MS Project 2010.

Microsoft Office Fluent User Interface: For faster access to the tools managers usually need for planning and managing their projects, Office has now integrated Ribbon UI in Project 2010 as well. As frequently used commands are right on top in Ribbon based UI, anyone new to Project 2010 will find it much easier to adapt to the simplified UI of Project 2010.

Simplified Scheduling: Project scheduling is a critical aspect in Project planning and something that has to be estimated to most accurate level by the manager(s). Project 2010 puts the managers in control as more simplified scheduling options have been introduced in Project 2010. User-controlled scheduling brings together the flexibility and ease of use of a tool like Microsoft Excel 2010.

Timeline View: Here’s an easy and effective way to communicate the schedule of the project among other team members. By using the very intuitive Timeline view. You can quickly publish key tasks and milestones in a concise Timeline view, and further, you can quickly copy-paste the timeline into other Office applications such as PowerPoint and Outlook 2010.

Visual Team Planner: Resource allocation and management is a challenging task to execute for any manager and Project Professional 2010 includes an amazing module that helps managers handle this challenge effortlessly. Visual Team Planner helps managers effectively visualize and manage resources. Using a resource-centric view, you can move assignments by dragging, quickly identifying and resolve over allocations, and view task status information.

Sync with SharePoint: To enhance collaboration among the work groups, now, users can publish Project Professional 2010 schedules to Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 task lists. Appropriate synchronization will help all the team members in keeping a regular update to the project schedule.

Built on SharePoint Server 2010: Microsoft Project Server 2010 is built on Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, so it combines powerful business collaboration platform services with structured PPM capabilities to provide flexible work management solutions for teams of all sizes.

Time Reporting Enhancements: Save your time and bring together task status updates using newly added mode called Single Entry Mode.

Extravagant Work Management Platform: Microsoft Project 2010 connects seamlessly with familiar Microsoft technologies like Office 2010, Exchange Server, and SharePoint Products, thereby providing powerful work management capabilities delivered using familiar tools.

Enterprise Scalability and Performance: Microsoft Project 2010 offers 64-bit compatibility to ensure that the solution continues to meet and exceed enterprise performance requirements.

An Extensible and Programmable Solution: Improvements to the Project API, PSI, and integration with SharePoint Server 2010 and Visual Studio 2010 are sure to give developers a robust development platform for fast deployment of custom solutions that integrate with line-of-business systems and processes.

New capacity planning module in Project Server 2010: This addition will help analysts effectively manage resources by proactively identifying surpluses and deficits and rescheduling proposed projects to maximize available resources.

Microsoft Publisher is another critical Office application that’s widely used by web developers and designers for creating websites and web templates through a quick and intuitive User Interface. And now with the arrival of Office 2010, Microsoft has added flurry of features to the existing capabilities of Publisher and packaged it well in Microsoft Publisher 2010.
Here’s everything new that has been added in Microsoft Publisher 2010. Take a look !

Ribbon UI

The ribbon, part of the Microsoft Office Fluent user interface (UI) has now been integrated in Publisher 2010 as well. With Ribbon interface, the accessibility to mostly used features will become far easier, saving time for the developers. This would provide quicker access to all the commands and enables users to do their own customizations. For instance, you can create your self-defined tabs to contain frequently used commands according to your preference.

Backstage view

Just like Ribbon UI, Office Backstage is also now an integral part of the Fluent UI throughout the Office application suite. The main function of Backstage view remains somewhat similar to Ribbon UI, that is, providing direct access to frequently used features from the File tab itself and helping users manage their Publisher 2010 files more effectively.

Clutter-free Workspace

In the Publisher 2010′s workspace, users will only see object boundaries when they would require them and would see alignment guides when they would need them (for instance, when a user tries to drag an object). Publisher users can also move swiftly from one page to another by using the new page navigation pane, which displays single-page or double-page thumbnails.

Integrated print and preview experience

In Publisher 2010, Print and Print Preview are integrated into single display, making it far easier for viewing the preview of any page and giving the Print command there and then. Earlier, one had to see Preview first and if everything looked fine then give a separate command for printing the page but with Publisher 2010, both the features are integrated as a single operation.

Saving file as .pdf or .xps

This feature has been introduced in Access 2010 as well. Users can now save files in the .pdf or .xps file format and can easily distribute their files through web or other mediums. Also .pdf files can be password-protected for providing limited access to the documents.

64-bit edition of Publisher 2010

Publisher 2010 64-bit edition is also available for Office users. It is backward-compatible with other versions of Publisher but can only be installed on Windows 64-bit operating systems.

This certainly includes the ability to make print adjustments as required while at the same time, viewing the effect of the changes in a larger preview of their publication. Users can view multiple pages at the same time, view page boundaries, page numbers, and sheet rulers while in print preview.

Get Microsoft Publisher 2010

Now, there are two ways by which you can get latest version of Microsoft Publisher:

1. Buy Microsoft Office Professional 2010. Microsoft Access is an RDBMS from Microsoft that basically provides a combined pool of Database management, software development tools, presented in a user-friendly GUI so that any programmer, developer or IT administrator can create, manage databases and build software applications by making use of the databases.

Now, with the latest release of Access 2010, Microsoft has made some critical additions to the feature set and capabilities of Access 2007, making it more productive for IT professionals and business users.

New features in Microsoft Access 2010

1. Ability to create Web databases: With the use of MS Access within Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, one can create a Web database using Access 2010. Front end users can use the database through a browser window. The design changes can be done by the Database administrator through MS Access 2010.

One must note that all of the features of desktop version of Microsoft Access 2010 are not replicated in the web version as well. Alternatively, the left out features can still be utilized in the web version by making use of other newly added features, namely calculated fields, data macros and similar others.

2. Export data to PDF and XPS format: This feature was a much requested feature and has finally been added in the latest version, that is, within Microsoft Access 2010. You can now export your data from Access 2010 application into .xps file format (XML Paper Specification) or .pdf file format (Portable Document Format) for easier distribution of your data via email or other sharing methods.

3. Ability to connect to a particular Web service as an “External data source”: With Microsoft Access 2010, you can now connect with a web service as an external data source. This could prove very useful for web developers and programmers who wanted to use their Access databases to be effectively used for their web services.

4. Backstage view: Backstage view and Ribbon UI have both been provided to all the office applications and therefore provided in Access 2010 as well. The Backstage view is accessible from the File tab and it contains immediate access to commands which user applies to an entire database, such as ‘compact and repair’.

5. Enhanced security features and strong integration with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010: These additions would help users manage data more effectively and allow making information tracking applications more secure than before.

The answer is : Productivity, Productivity, Productivity !!

The whole difference lies in productivity. A particular task that could surely be done with Office 2003 applications can be done far more efficiently with Office 2010, saving precious time & efforts, which eventually makes the “version upgrade” worth it !

From now on, every business, from small scale firms to large enterprises, can get the latest version of Office productivity suite, i.e., Office 2010 and start utilizing the advantages of the latest Office 2010 suite of products.

While giving a keynote presentation to media at New York, Stephen Elop, president, Microsoft Business Division said…

“Office 2010 defines the future of productivity. With the 2010 set of products, organizations will save, innovate and grow as their people benefit from working across the PC, phone and browser.”

With Microsoft Office 2010, businesses will not only increase their productivity but also take advantage of the newly introduced Office Web Apps, which will truly enable the users in collaborating online and working anywhere.

Office Home and Business 2010 in Details

Office Home and Business 2010 differs from Home and Student 2010 in a manner that it does not include the professional applications that Office Home and Student does not.

Following are the list of applications that are covered under Office Home and Business 2010.

Word 2010

On Jan 11, there were a number of office versions, which went unavailable for buying, which clearly depicted that Microsoft didn’t meet the deadline on time. A couple of media sources noted it right on Jan 11 itself.

Now it seems that Microsoft is done with the exclusion of questionable custom XML usage in Word application as various Office application suites, which mainly covers the Office 2007 offerings as yet, have started selling on the official Microsoft Office site again.
